Faculty Centres |
The Faculty comprises three Schools and three major Centres that are the focus of our teaching and research. Within these groups there are a number of other major research centres that make our Faculty one of the most research active in Australia.
Schools
School of Biomedical Science
One of the most successful biomedical research Schools in Australia with 38 active groups providing unique opportunities for study or research in areas covering anatomy, developmental biology, physiology and pharmacology.
School of Integrative Biology
Recognised as one of the major plant science groups in Australia this School covers the areas of Botany, Zoology and Entomology. Research in this School is conducted over a broad range of areas relating to evolution, ecology and behavioural and animal genetics and botany.
School of Molecular and Microbial Science
Excelling in the disciplines of biochemistry, molecular biology, chemistry, microbiology and parasitology as well as UQ's Biotechnology program.
Centres
Centre for Integrative Legume Research
The Centre aims to drive the development of the genomics and phenomics of legumes with world class research facilities. The Centre was established in 2003 with a A$10 million Australian Research Council grant over five years under the ARC Centres of Excellence program. A further $18 million has been contributed by partner universities and state governments.
Centre for Marine Studies
The Centre for Marine Studies co-ordinates research and teaching on the ocean, coast, estuaries and reefs of Queensland for the University. The teaching and research programs in the Centre cover the full range of organisms and environments.
Centre for Microscopy and Microanalysis
The Centre for Microscopy and Microanalysis is an interdisciplinary research and service facility dedicated to an understanding of the structure and composition of all materials at atomic, molecular, cellular and macromolecular scale.
